“The Raising of America- DNA is Not Destiny” documentary screening to be sponsored by Yamhill Community Care Organization as part of The Family Resiliency Community Conversation series
McMinnville, Ore. — Join Yamhill Community Care Organization on March 21st for a screening of “The Raising of America: DNA is Not Destiny”. The film will begin at 6:30 p.m., at the Linfield Ice Auditorium. Participants will explore how social environments alter gene expression and ultimately change the course of an individual’s life.
Trauma, poverty, and even everyday parental stress have been linked to changes in gene expression in babies. These genetic alterations are associated with a host of issues later in life: including anxiety, depression, poor learning, obesity, substance abuse and even cancers.If early environments can alter the way our genes work, then a child’s development, success and wellbeing goes beyond the individual choices a family makes. “DNA is Not Destiny” suggests policy to follow this science; in order to foster healthy child development, we must create more protective environments for our children.

Donations made during the event will be donated to Provoking Hope’s Responsible Mom’s Program. The goal of the program is to see babies born drug free and have good health the first 2 years of life.
