Yamhill CCO seeks nominations for volunteer award

Protecting our children is everyone’s responsibility

McMinnville, Ore. — Yamhill Community Care Organization’s Early Learning Hub would like to recognize community members who are committed to serving and keeping children safe and secure in Yamhill County. The selected Children’s Hero will be recognized during April, Child Abuse Prevention Month. The recipient of the award will be a community member who impacts the safety and well-being of children through advocacy, volunteerism and/or resource sharing.

Lauren Berg, principal of Yamhill-Carlton Elementary School and co-chair of the CCO’s Early Learning Council, says “Building strength and resiliency in our children is a job for the entire community.  As educators, we have an obligation to reach out to all facets of our community to create a system of supports for our children, working with parents, leaders, and various agencies to create an environment where all students can safely grow and thrive.  No one group can accomplish this alone.  It is our collective effort that bears success.”

“We know that Adverse Childhood Experiences impact both educational attainment and long term health outcomes for many people,” says Seamus McCarthy, PhD, Yamhill CCO’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “Creating a community that supports holistic wellness involves the dedication of numerous individuals, many of whom work behind the scenes--often for low or no pay--and are rarely acknowledged. But their work is no less critical than that of our physicians.”

The Yamhill CCO EL Hub is requesting the assistance of community partners to identify candidates for the Children’s Hero Award. Nomination forms can be found at yamhillearlylearning.org and should be returned to Jenn Richter at jrichter@yamhillcco.org by Monday, March 26th, 2018. The recipient will be recognized at the April 12th Early Learning Council meeting.
