Yamhill CCO’s Early Learning Hub launches Professional Learning Teams

McMinnville, Ore. — Yamhill Community Care Organization’s Early Learning Hub is launching professional learning teams in two communities. Designed to provide kindergarten teachers, childcare providers, and other early childhood educators a chance to address factors contributing to school readiness as a team, the quarterly events will focus on the development of socio-emotional skills as well as early literacy and numeracy. The first team will launch Saturday, October 7, at Faulconer-Chapman School in Sheridan. The second kicks off Saturday, November 4, at Wascher Elementary School in Lafayette.

Says Wascher Principal Kourtney Ferrua, “Learning doesn’t begin when students enter kindergarten. The early years are critical for success. This opportunity to collaborate with our students’ first teachers -- parents, child care providers and preschool leaders -- will help us all get on the same page so that we can strengthen our outcomes for kids. Early intervention and support is by far the best way to prevent students from struggling in school.”

Faulconer-Chapman kindergarten teacher Mindy Arthur states, “We are excited to participate in this pilot. We have been dreaming about the chance to sit down with the childcare providers and preschool teachers in our area and have a joint discussion about how we can set our kids up for success, but we haven’t been able to make that happen until now.”

In addition to facilitated conversation regarding gaps and opportunities within the community, participants will receive resources to support their educational process and instruction on how to engage young children to develop the skills they need to succeed in kindergarten and beyond.
